Cheesy Love Poems
You radiate warmth
and I soften beside you
like butter
I better
stay cool
before I melt
into a greasy yellow puddle
***
When I sneak under the blankets at 4 a.m.
and wriggle myself into your sleepy arms
we click into place, like two batteries
our pluses and minuses
exactly where they need to be
to produce light and warmth
***
What if I’m hit on a Brooklyn corner
by a speeding Toyota blasting hip-hop?
What if the A train goes off the track,
and I’m chewed and spit out into the dark?
What if my Uber rams into a bus
just two miles away from JFK?
What if the plane goes down, not south,
and takes a nosedive into the wave,
and I don’t get to see you after all the wait?
***
Skin has grown into skin
had to rip it away
I bleed and drag
my feet and bag
through the airport security maze
still dazed by
the goodbye
